High-resolution Infrared Imaging of Herschel 36 Se: a Showcase for the Influence of Massive Stars in Cluster Environments
نویسنده
چکیده
We present high-resolution infrared imaging of the massive star-forming region around the O-star Herschel 36. Special emphasis is given to a compact infrared source at 0. 25 southeast of the star. The infrared source, hereafter Her 36 SE, is extended in the broad–band images, but features spatially unresolved Br γ line emission. The line-emission source coincides in position with the previous HST detections in Hα and the 2 cm radio continuum emission detected by VLA interferometry. We propose that the infrared source Her 36 SE harbors an early B-type star, deeply embedded in a dusty cloud. The fan shape of the cloud with Herschel 36 at its apex, though, manifests direct and ongoing destructive influence of the O7V star on Her 36 SE. Subject headings: circumstellar matter — dust, extinction — planetary systems: protoplanetary disks — early-type — stars: formation — stars: individual (Herschel 36, G5.97−1.17)

The Herschel Filament: a Signature of the Environmental Drivers of Galaxy Evolution during the Assembly of Massive Clusters at Z=0.9
We have discovered a 2.5 Mpc (projected) long filament of infrared-bright galaxies connecting two of the three ∼ 5× 1014 M⊙ clusters making up the RCS 2319+00 supercluster at z = 0.9. The filament is revealed in a deep Herschel Spectral and Photometric Imaging REceiver (SPIRE) map that shows 250–500μm emission associated with a spectroscopically identified filament of galaxies spanning two X-ra...
متن کاملThe structure and early evolution of massive star forming regions - Substructure in the infrared dark cloud SDC13
Context. Investigations into the substructure of massive star forming regions are essential for understanding the observed relationships between core mass distributions and mass distributions in stellar clusters, differentiating between proposed mechanisms of massive star formation. Aims. We study the substructure in the two largest fragments (i.e. cores) MM1 and MM2, in the infrared dark cloud...
متن کاملTwo Massive, Low-luminosity Cores toward Infrared Dark Clouds
This article presents high-resolution interferometric mosaics in the 850μm waveband of two massive, quiescent infrared dark clouds. The two clouds were chosen based on their likelihood to represent environments preceding the formation of massive stars. The brightest compact sources detected in each cloud have masses ≈ 110M and ≈ 60M with radii < 0.1 pc, implying mean densities of 〈n〉 ≈ 10 cm−3 ...
متن کاملMetallicity in the Galactic Center: The Arches cluster
We present a quantitative spectral analysis of five very massive stars in the Arches cluster, located near the Galactic center, to determine stellar parameters, stellar wind properties and, most importantly, metallicity content. The analysis uses a new technique, presented here for the first time, and uses line-blanketed NLTE wind/atmosphere models fit to high-resolution near-infrared spectra o...

I review the prospects for studies of the advanced evolutionary stages of low-, intermediateand high-mass stars by the JWST and concurrent facilities, with particular emphasis on how they may help elucidate the dominant contributors to the interstellar dust component of galaxies. Observations extending from the mid-infrared to the submillimeter can help quantify the heavy element and dust speci...
